Projects

Projects/Assessments

Here are three projects/assessments for 2nd Term. Celebrate now because you get to do all three!

(Note: projects will be due in November, December, and the early part of January. Dates will be posted soon.)

#1 On Your Own: PowerPoint Vocabulary

  1. Download the PowerPoint file.
  2. Manipulate it, inserting clip-art or other appropriate images that reflect the words on the screen. Some phrases may not be found, but the majority of the words should have a visual representation. The vocabulary words themselves should appear on each slide as well and not be hidden by the image you have chosen. Be careful about the sizes of your photos. If the file gets too large because your photos are too high quality, you might have problems emailing it.
  3. SAVE YOUR WORK.
  4. Record your voice as the slide narrator.

To record using PowerPoint

#2 On Your Own (Here at School): Basic Conversation

You will have a free-flowing conversation with me based upon the conversation found on line at Basic Conversation.

Free-flowing means you will not necessarily be asked the questions in the order that they appear. It is highly recommended that you spend a significant amount of time learning all the aspects of this dialogue, practicing out loud, being able to say your answers and ask questions without the use of reading prompts.

These conversations will be thorough and scheduled. Failure to appear on the scheduled day will simply result in NO credit. Know your sports schedules, shed no tears.

#3 Chose ONE of the following…

Besides the projects above, you are to chose one of the following 3 projects. With these projects, you may decide to work as a group or to work alone. You should know, however, that all projects, even group projects, are subject to the success or failure of the delivery of the project. If the project is not delivered, whatever the reason… the story becomes a sad, sad tale.

You: “The dog ate my computer…”

Señor: “That’s so sad.”

1) As A Group: The Short Movie Project

Using ONLY the vocabulary from the text and the great number of expressions we have pulled from films and songs sung in class, you are to write a short script to be acted out by a minimum of 3 persons and a maximum of 5.

  • Scripts must be submitted for approval and receive approval before filming begins.
  • Scripts, props, costumes, and actions must remain appropriate for school setting.
  • The Short Film may be no longer than 5 minutes in length and no shorter than 3.
  • Examples of short movies can be found at Videos (Please note the great importance that setting, props, and emotion played in conveying meaning during these examples.)

2) As A Group (or As A Solo Project): The Music Video

Using ONLY the music videos/songs we have sung as a class, you may make your own version of a music video.

  • All participants must appear to be singing the words in time with the musical recording.
  • Convince the audience that you know what you’re singing.

  • Your script must be submitted and approved before filming begins.

Alternatively, you may substitute any of these #3 Projects (1-3) by… Reciting a bunch of Poetry!!!*

*note: The PowerPoint and the Basic Conversation are not substitutable projects. All students are required to do those.

You can recite the poetry of Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer.

  • If you are in Spanish 9, you are required to recite a number of poems consisting of at least 4 lines of poetry.
  • If you are in Spanish 10, you are required to recite a number of poems consisting of at least 8 lines of poetry. You may NOT recite only part of a poem.

Poem recitations can happen one of two ways:

  1. You may recite your poems in class, publicly (but I schedule the day, and if you don’t show, that’s a sad, sad story)
  2. You may record a video of yourself reciting your poems, upload it to YouTube and submit the link via email—to be shown to the class

In either case pronunciation, emotion, and props are required. You may not simply say the words of the poems. You must make us believe that you mean what you say.

Check Your Work

No surprises. View your work before you submit it. “I didn’t know it didn’t have any sound”… is a sad, sad tale.

Submit Your Work

For those submitting recitations electronically, the video material is to be uploaded to a YouTube account and the sharing link emailed to EMAIL

Videos that are not submitted PRIOR to the deadline will be considered non-presentations and you will receive NO credit.
